Joint Sprains - Keeping Your Joints Healthy

Posted by admin on August 1st, 2008

The Best Treatment For A Sprain

Chad Clifton, the Green Bay Packers guard/tackle suffered a season-ending sprain to ligaments in his pelvic area during the Packers’ Nov. 24, 2002 game at Tampa. Obviously, joint sprains can be a serious problem. If you have ever sprained your foot, you know that it can be something that slows you down.

Even if you are doing sports like Kite landboarding or Xare or Polo just for fun, you can get a painful sprain.

What Happens When You Get A Sprain

Your joints are located where bones are joined. The joints are supported by a fibrous capsule. The capsule is additionally strengthened by ligaments which are thicker collections of fibers. The muscles and tendons that cover the joint give even more strength to the joint.

When a joint is twisted out of its normal position, some of those fibers, joints and muscles are damaged. Some of the fibers are forcefully ruptured.

First Aid For A Sprain

When you get a sprain, you also tear some of the capillaries in the joint resulting in a bruise. Other tissue damage causes swelling.

There are two highly useful techniques that will decrease bruising and swelling.

Ice is truly helpful in decreasing the amount of swelling and bruising in a sprain. Ice will decrease the blood flow to a sprain. Ice causes the blood vessels in the area to constrict.

Another very helpful preventative treatment is the pressure bandage. Applying a small amount of pressure to the injured area will help minimize the blood and fluid from leaking out of blood vessels and tissues.

Sprain Recovery

Over the counter anti-inflamatories can help get rid of swelling, bruising and soreness quicker. Ibuprofen and Naproxen are good examples.

After two days, start using heat. Heat will dilate the blood vessels and help with healing. Often, alternating heat and cold will stimulate healing even more.

Make It Work For You

Even if you are not some big name athlete, and even if you don’t participate in T-Ball or Knotty or Flag football, you can get elbow sprains. Use these useful therapies to help you get better painlessly.

Cancer From The Sun - The Scourge of Malignant Melanoma Skin Cancer

Posted by admin on July 30th, 2008

Wesley May’s face had a small spot that looked different. It was growing. That spot was growing because a melanocyte had become a cancer. He was told by his personal physician that he had a malignant melanoma skin cancer.

Melanocytes are the cells that produce melanin. Melanin gives dark or tan color to the skin. But, when one of these cells gets out of control, it can produce one of the most dangerous cancers known. And more than 52,3237 people are told that they have melanoma every year just inside the USA.

Risks for getting Malignant Melanoma

The most common risk factor for melanoma known is excess ultraviolet rays. When melanoma was first studied, it was found that people who had jobs outside were much more likely to get melanoma. Then it was found out that mostly those who had gotten a sunburn that caused blisters were those who tended to go on to get a malignant melanoma.

People with fair skin are much more likely to get melanoma skin cancer. This might likely be related to the fact that they are more likely to get skin damage by sun exposure. But, this is not a hard and fast fact.

Those who have lots of nevi (moles) are more likely to get melanoma, particularly those who have over 50. Also, those with a particular type of mole called a dysplastic nevus are at higher risk.

Some people have had other skin cancers successfully treated including basal cell carcinoma. Those people are more likely to get melanoma.

If you have had other family members that had malignant melanoma, then you are more likely to get a malignant melanoma as well.

Finally, those who are immune compromised get melanomas more frequently. Whether a person has AIDS, an organ transplant needing medications to curtail the immune system or others using those medications, that person will have a higher risk.

One published case showed the role of genetics in malignant melanoma. A man who was a chimera got malignant melanoma. A chimera is someone who has different parts of the body having two different sets of DNA. This could be the result when twins are formed and somehow join into one body. The man in the journal article had large metastatic lumps of malignant melanoma tumors on one side of his body and the other side had none at all!

How to Identify a Melanoma

The only way to be sure whether a bump on your skin is a malignant melanoma or not is to have your doctor take it off and get it studied by a pathologist. However, there are some ways to know if you should be suspicious of one of those lumps or bumps.

Irregular Border - A malignant melanoma will typically have an uneven border. The usual mole has a sharp border. You can point to any spot on your skin and say for sure whether it is part of the mole or not. This is not the case with malignant melanoma.

Assymetric Shape - The malignant melanoma lesions typically have two halves that look different.

Different Color - Melanomas often will have different parts of the tumor that have different colors.

Size - most melanomas are larger than other moles. And they also tend to grow and may bleed or itch.

If you have a supicious lesion that you have a question about, get it checked by your doctor early. Getting that tumor removed early gives you a much better chance of survival. Especially if the bump is still quite small.

Safe and Simple Car Buying on Ebay

Posted by admin on July 24th, 2008

Buying a car on ebay

When you start shopping for a car, eBay can be the best place to discover some uniquely good deals. The world’s largest auction anywhere, eBay has all types of cars from newer cars to vintage to custom. You can also find parts and accessories for cars. Not only that but, most of the items that you successfully purchase on eBay will be at a significant discount.

Just some of the cars found on ebay recently include Dodge Avenger, Hummer H3t, Dodge Durango, Oldsmobile F-85, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Lincoln Navigator, Mercury Montego, Buick Estate Wagon and even a few custom cars.

How Ebay works

When it comes to online shopping, eBay has it all. The world’s largest online shopping site by far, boasting 147 million registered users (and growing) who reside in over 25 different countries, eBay is a huge online garage sale, shopping center, toy dealer, car dealer, flea market and auction site.

Literally everything is bought and sold on eBay, everything legal, that is. From the really bizarre, like a partially eaten grilled cheese sandwich that is believed to have the image of the Virgin Mary on it, to the everyday, like books, furniture, golf clubs, audio equiment and dresses, to the items with the wow factor like airplanes and Lamborghinis, eBay offers a diverse collection of items at great discounts for people to bid on or buy outright.

How to Find the Car you Want

When shopping on eBay, finding what you want is a breeze. Plug the appropriate term into the search window and you will undoubtedly find many related items. Type in a keyword or two and select a category, then search. If you need more options, go with the advanced search so that you can set more parameters. Once the listings are returned to you, browse the headings to find items that reflect what you want. You can click on the heading links and read the actual listings and if that isn’t enough for you, contact the seller via email to get all the information that you need.

How to Bid

Once you have discovered that special car that you want, submit your bid. You can bid just enough to outbid your competition or you can set your bid at the highest you are willing to pay. The eBay system will bid in increments until your limit is reached. If you have to leave the eBay system you can still get your bid alerts via email. If someone outbids you the system will automatically email you to let you know. Many people have the alerts sent to their cell phones so that it chimes when they receive an email. This way it is possible to log onto the eBay site and slightly increase your bid if you so desire.

Resources for Helping you Bid

Some eBay bidders will wait until the very last seconds of the auction and then make their bid. This last bid is usually placed just before the auction closes meaning there is no time for any other bids to be placed. This practice is called "sniping" and it is highly controversial. Some bidders feel that it is perfectly fine and an effective strategy for winning the auction. Other bidders, however, feel that the practice is unethical and sneaky. Whether you snipe or not is a personal decision. It is important, though, that you be aware that it is done regularly on eBay.

You should also beware of unusual but possible scams. The website http://www.carbuyingtips.com/fraud.htm has some vital tips and guidelines that will help you.

You find great deals for pretty much everything on eBay and cars are no exception. You can find the car of your dreams on eBay and now that you know the ropes, it will be that much easier.

Smoking Pipe Collecting

Posted by admin on July 21st, 2008

Pipe Collecting

The use of pipes goes back thousands of years to about 500 B.C. The American Indians introduced tobacco pipes to the European settlers and exporers around 1560, and the use of pipe smoking spread quickly.

Pipes have been created from all kinds of material, but the most commonly were carved from briar wood. Since pipe smoking was introduced to the Europeans, pipes have been made of oak, mesquite, cherrywood, corncobs, and clay. Pipes made from glass are not well suited for smoking tobacco but some people do use them. A pipe is a combination of two parts; the bowl for burning the tobacco and a hollow mouthpiece that allows the smoke to be drawn into the mouth.

&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43

Pipe-smokers spend so much time cleaning, filling and fooling with their pipes, they don’t have time to get into mischief. Bill Vaughan

&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43&#43

Why Collect Pipes?

There is a practically unlimited combo of designs and materials that are combined in a pipe. Many of these pipes have been exquisitely designed and etched with beautiful busts of heads of people like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Tiger Woods, shapes of animals and other creatures like the Common Dolphin and the Green Sea Turtle. You might even find one with the mythical Amanojaku or the Lilitu.

Many collectors are interested in the intricate design, or a certain shape, or the unusual length and bend of the various pipes. That makes a very good reason to start collecting them. The age of the pipe as well as the complexity of the design, the material that the pipe is made from, and the quality determine its collectibility. Quite a few pipes in people’s private collections are worth a significant amount of money.

The Varieties of Pipes

The variety of the different types of pipes are tremendous. They are made in numerous shapes, sizes, and designs. Pipes may be made from one type of wood and combined to another type of material. An example would be a bowl made from erica arborea and a metal stem, or corncob or meerschaum connected with a reed stem.

Conclusions

whatever type of pipes you want to collect, whether you are collecting pipes from certain manufacturers, or certain designs, maybe you do not even have a theme for your pipe collection. Maybe you are just collecting unusual pipes of any type, your collection will not disappoint you. Pipes are something to treasure, and in the long run will be a valuable investment, if that is what you choose to do.

Homemade Candy Recipes

Posted by admin on July 16th, 2008

The very best candy in the world can appear in your own kitchen. And, your kids will never forget you making candy for them - or letting them help you.

One of my favorite memories as a child is of an old fashioned taffy pull. My mom, Jacqueline Moreno, would make a big kettle of taffee. All the kids from church were there. We would each get a buttered plate with a bunch of the taffee in the center. After smearing butter on our hands, we would take the taffee outside and start pulling it.

Grabbing the taffee with our finger tips, we would pull it out as far as we could and then double it over. The taffee was hot, so mom would always do this when there was snow outside. So, as soon as our hands got too hot, we would put down our plates and put our hands in the snow.

The taffee started out a dark brown, but when it had turned a blonde color, we know it was done. Then we put our plates out in the snow - where the dogs couldn’t get it. And we would go play games until it was cool. Then we got to try our creations. If we had done it right, we could break off small bites of taffee that would be chewy but soft enough so you wouldn’t break a tooth.

You can make the same kind of memories in your home with some of these recipes:

Pecan Candy (Patience Candy)

3 cups granulated sugar, 2 cups milk, pecans, and butter. Place 1 cup sugar in iron skillet and melt to a light brown. When melted add 1 cup milk. [Then add remaining milk and sugar.] Boil until it forms soft ball in cold water. Remove from fire, add butter and pecans, and beat thoroughly. Pour on buttered dish or oiled paper and cut in squares. Use about 1/4 pound of butter and as many pecans as desired. Be sure to cook over slow fire.

Popcorn Balls

1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup light corn syrup or molasses, 1 tablespoon butter, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon vinegar. Melt the butter in an enameled saucepan, add the sugar and syrup, and cook without stirring until a little dropped into cold water will crack. Remove from the heat and pour the syrup over the popcorn, which should be spread in a large pan. Pour very slowly, turning the popcorn so that the kernels will be well coated. Shape in small balls, pressing well into shape, and wrap each in waxed paper.Meringue Panachees Fill meringue glac%uFFFDes with ice cream, or ice cream and water ice. Garnish with whipped cream forced through pastry bag and tube, and candied cherries.

Easy Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe

Cook together 2 cups granulated sugar, 2 tablespoonfuls peanut butter, and 1/2 cup milk until it forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water. Add 1/2 teaspoonful vanilla, cool and beat until creamy. Pour into a buttered pie plate and when nearly cold, cut it in small squares.

Meringue Mushrooms Shape meringue glac%uFFFD mixture in rounds the size of mushroom caps, using pastry bag and tube; sprinkle with grated chocolate. Shape stems like mushroom stems. Bake, remove from paper, and place caps on stems.

And you might want to try this old historic recipe as well:

"Apricot Leather Wash 1 package dried apricots and put them in water to soak overnight. Next morning, bring apricots and water to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and drain thoroughly. (Be sure all the water has drained off.) mash the apricots through a sieve, or belnd in a blender until smooth. Measure pulp: return it to the saucepan and add 1 part sugar to every 3 parts pulp. Bring to a boil and boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly (at thsis tage the mixture may burn easily, so stir carefully.) Let the mixture cool for 15 minutes; then spread almost paper thin on a large piece of glass, marble slab, or aluminum cookie sheet. Form a rectangular shape. Place in a warm dry room (an attic is excellent) to dry for 1 to 2 days (it should be pliable enough to roll). Cut the leather into 3-inch squares, sprinkle with granulated sugar, and roll tightly into rolls about the size of a small pencil. Roll in granulated sugar and stroe in a tightly closed box." —The Thirteen Colonies Cookbook, Mary Donovan et al (p. 251) [Georgia]

John McCain - What John McCain is Saying

Posted by admin on July 14th, 2008

John Sidney McCain III, as you well know, is the Republican candidate for president. On the other hand, you may not undertand some of his message. So, I’ve collected a number of his quotes for you here. By the way, have you noticed that this is a race of Barak II vs. John III?

The Senator says:

I believe that the best way to help small businesses and employers afford health care is not to increase government control of health care but to bring the rising cost of care under control and give people the option of having personal, portable health insurance. John Sidney McCain III

As President, I intend to make religious freedom a subject of great importance for the United States in our relations with other nations. I will work in close concert with democratic allies to raise the prominence of religious freedom in every available forum. Whether in bilateral negotiations, or in various multi-national organizations to which America belongs, I will make respect for the basic principle of religious freedom a priority in international relations. John Sidney McCain III

Hezbollah fighters recently took up arms against their fellow Lebanese, starting the worst internal fighting since the civil war ended in 1990. In the process, they extracted an agreement for a new political arrangement in which Hezbollah and its allies can veto any cabinet decision. As the leader of Hezbollah often reminds us, this group’s mission is the defeat of Israel. The international community needs to more fully empower our allies in Lebanon %uFFFD not only with military aid but also with the resources to undermine Hezbollah’s appeal: better schools, hospitals, roads and power generation, and the like. We simply cannot afford to cede Lebanon’s future to Syria and Iran. John Sidney McCain III

I am an idealist, and I believe it is possible in our time to make the world we live in another, better, more peaceful place, where our interests and those of our allies are more secure, and American ideals that are transforming the world, the principles of free people and free markets, advance even farther than they have. But I am, from hard experience and the judgment it informs, a realistic idealist. I know we must work very hard and very creatively to build new foundations for a stable and enduring peace. We cannot wish the world to be a better place than it is. We have enemies for whom no attack is too cruel, and no innocent life safe, and who would, if they could, strike us with the world’s most terrible weapons. There are states that support them, and which might help them acquire those weapons because they share with terrorists the same animating hatred for the West, and will not be placated by fresh appeals to the better angels of their nature. This is the central threat of our time, and we must understand the implications of our decisions on all manner of regional and global challenges could have for our success in defeating it. John Sidney McCain III

Alcohol fuels made from corn, sugar, switch grass and many other sources that could benefit that rural farm economy of South Carolina and other states, fuel cells, biodiesel derived from waste products, natural gas, and other technologies are all promising and available alternatives to oil. I won’t support subsidizing every alternative or tariffs that restrict the healthy competition that stimulates innovation and lower costs. But I’ll encourage the development of infrastructure and market growth necessary for these products to compete, and let consumers choose the winners. I’ve never known an American entrepreneur worthy of the name who wouldn’t rather compete for sales than subsidies. John Sidney McCain III

No people have ever been better innovators and problem solvers than Americans. The people of South Carolina provide an example for us to follow in developing energy security. It is in our national DNA to see challenges as opportunities; to conquer problems beyond the expectation of an admiring world. America, relying as always on the industry and imagination of a free people, and the power and innovation of free markets, is capable of overcoming any challenge from within and without our borders. Our enemies believe we’re too weak to overcome our dependence on foreign oil. Even some of our allies think we’re no longer the world’s most visionary, most capable country or committed to the advancement of mankind. I think we know better than that. I think we know who we are and what we can do. Now, let’s remind the world. John Sidney McCain III

How to Make Articles Unique

Posted by admin on July 13th, 2008

Just like Hector Bell of El Paso, you just ordered a PLR pack from New PLR Articles dot com. However, when you checked out a sample article on Gigablast, you found that there were 7398 other articles on the web that were identicle! What do you do?

As you undoubtedly know, PLR articles are a very rapid method to get lots of content. In fact, it is so easy a caveman could do it (now where have I heard that before?). However, just like Hector you will soon find that if you use those articles right out of the box, they will actually harm your business. The search engines will soon recognize that your content is the same as many other sites. You will then be close to last in the search engine listings. You might even be banned. So, are all those PLR articles worth anything? Yes, because…

Here are three things that can rapidly make your article unique in the eyes of the search engines:

1) Add an Introductory Paragraph

Make up a problem scenario. Look what I did in the first paragraph of this article. It was just imaginary. But, it made you read the rest (at least up to here).

2) Add a Quote

Pick a relevant and interesting quote that you can put in your article like this:

=================

You are WHAT you are, You are WHERE you are, because of what you put in your mind. You can CHANGE what you are, You can CHANGE where you are, by changing what you put in your mind.

=================

The quote can add interest to your article and the search engines like Ask will consider it more unique. You may wish to put the quote at different places in your article if you use it in different places.

3) Change the Ending to the Article

Changing the article ending is not quite as important as the making the first paragraph unique. The reason is, that you normally will also be adding a resource box. And the search engines seem to put more weight on the unique qualitites of the first part of the article. However, it will help you to change the last paragraph at least a bit.

You can either do that by adding another paragraph if that is appropriate. Or you can change the last paragraph.

Change the sentences in the conclusion. You can make it more fitting with your personality. And you can make it more appropriate for the purpose of your website. Whether you are trying to send traffic to one special affiliate or your own product, the ending is often important to get someone to perform the way you want them to.

In the next part of this PLR Articles series, I will show you how to start using some software to make your PLR article unique.

If this still sounds too complicated, I would urge you to check out %LINK%. There you will find many free to use PLR articles that will be totally unique every time you refresh a webpage. All you have to do is copy one and paste it onto your blog.

And you can see a unique version of this article at Quickly Make Your PLR Articles Unique.

Quotes from George W. Bush

Posted by admin on July 13th, 2008

My son Clifford and I were watching Walker Texas Ranger the other night. You know, the Home of the Brave episode where an apartment owner’s profitable plan to get rid of his tenants starts to fail and he plots to destroy the furnace of the apartment and make it look like an accident. When a little boy accidentally witnesses this he is trapped and Walker must rescue him before the building collapses. And, I started thinking about President George W Bush living in Crawford, Texas.

Whether you admire President Bush or not, you have to laugh at some of his mistatementations. Like these:

- Home is important. It’s important to have a home. Crawford, Texas (February 18, 2001)

- Actually, I- this may sound a little West Texan to you, but I like it. When I’m talking about- when I’m talking about myself, and when he’s talking about myself, all of us are talking about me. Hardball, May 31, 2000- See, free nations are peaceful nations. Free nations don’t attack each other. Free nations don’t develop weapons of mass destruction. Midwest Airlines Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 3, 2003

- I made it very plain: We will not have an all-volunteer army. [Crowd boos] Let me restate that. We will not have a draft. [Crowd Cheers] Bush speaking at the Daytona International Speedway with his brother, Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida, October 16, 2004

Because the %uFFFD all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There’s a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those %uFFFD changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be %uFFFD or closer delivered to what has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It’s kind of muddled. Look, there’s a series of things that cause the %uFFFD like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate %uFFFD the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those %uFFFD if that growth is affected, it will help on the red. (4 February 2005)

- Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we. Yahoo! News, August 5, 2004, upon signing a US$417 billion defense spending bill

- The best way to get the news is from objective sources, and the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what’s happening in the world. FOX interview w/ Brit Hume, 2003 Sep 23

President George W. Bush has let the nation through some of the most important times in memory. So, naturally, some of the statements that he got right are also memorable. These are some good examples:

- The United Nations has imposed sanctions on Iran, and made it clear that the world will not allow the regime in Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.

- America is leading the fight against global poverty, with strong education initiatives and humanitarian assistance. We’ve also changed the way we deliver aid by launching the Millennium Challenge Account. This program strengthens democracy, transparency, and the rule of law in developing nations, and I ask you to fully fund this important initiative.

So, whether you love him, hate him or just don’t care, what he has said is worth the read.

John McCain - What is He Really Saying?

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2008

John Sidney McCain III, as you obviously know, is the Republican candidate for president. But, you may not undertand some of his message. So, I’ve collected a number of his quotes for you here. By the way, have you noticed that this is a race of Barak II vs. John III?

The Senator says:

I have never run a small, struggling enterprise — unless you count my presidential campaign last year. But I do know that more than anything else, small businesses are what make the American economy run. John Sidney McCain III

To keep our nation prosperous, strong and growing we have to rethink, reform and reinvent: the way we educate our children; train our workers; deliver health care services; support retirees; fuel our transportation network; stimulate research and development; and harness new technologies. John Sidney McCain III

Last year the world celebrated the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British and American slave trade in 1807. Nearly fifty-six years would pass before Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, signaling the end of slavery in the United States. But the achievement of both countries in terminating the international slave trade and setting into motion the titanic and bloody struggle to close a shameful chapter in the history of our country should be remembered as a turning point in mankind’s long and fitful progress toward a more just world. William Wilberforce had struggled for years in the British parliament to strike the lethal blow against the abominable institution that had scarred Western civilization for centuries. He was a humble Christian man, powerfully motivated by his faith, whose example instructs every person born in freedom that we have a moral obligation not to turn a blind eye to assaults on the collective dignity of humanity wherever they occur. John Sidney McCain III

Human trafficking %uFFFD slavery, by another name %uFFFD exists not just in places like Thailand, Kuwait and Venezuela. It is a serious problem here in the United States. It is a tragic reality that, two hundred years after Wilberforce won his battle to end the slave trade between Britain and the United States, and nearly 150 years after our nation ended the institution here, the practice still thrives in the dark corners of our society. Most of the victims of human trafficking in the United States and in most other places in the world are the most vulnerable among us, destitute women and children who are sold into bondage as sex slaves. John Sidney McCain III

If we are successful in pulling together a global coalition for peace and freedom — if we lead by shouldering our international responsibilities and pointing the way to a better and safer future for humanity, I believe we will gain tangible benefits as a nation. John Sidney McCain III

We can also find ways to use new sources of power like hydrogen. My energy policies will rely on setting good incentives for firms, entrepreneurs, and households. But they will not shortchange the need for basic research to provide the pathway for new sources of energy, better materials, improved batteries, and other advances in knowledge that will be central to rising to this great challenge. The research being performed at Clemson University and the International Center for Automotive Research is unlocking the possibilities for hydrogen fueled automobiles. And research at the University of South Carolina and the Savannah River National Laboratory is advancing the potential for other hydrogen technologies. John Sidney McCain III

I am proud of my role in persuading my fellow Republican Senators to respect the limits of our own power and not abolish the filibuster rule–changes which promised to empower a different majority under another President to impede our cause of limited government and constrained judicial power. Instead we have focused with considerable success on assuring that a high percentage of the President’s nominees have been confirmed. And those judges and justices will interpret our Constitution as our Founders intended. John Sidney McCain III

You Can Run A Bed And Breakfast

Posted by admin on July 10th, 2008

Just trying to get a room makes you realize that bed and breakfasts are popular all over the US and you might even run across one in Kenya. What makes them so popular? A really attractive and private guest room, fluffy towels, personal service, an excellent hot breakfast, private bathroom, and peace and quiet are some of the superb reasons people pick a bed and breakfast instead of a motel.

Have you really dreamed of buying your own bed and breakfast? It’s not as simple as preparing a couple of rooms, cooking a few meals and opening your doors. There are a couple of requirements to meet prior to moving on with your own bed and breakfast dream.

A great way to get started is to do some work in an established bed and breakfast. Spend three or four months with a well known innkeeper and you will learn first hand everything that is involved with opening your own B&B.

If you are still interested after that, you will need to consider whether or not you have the personality it takes to operate a bed and breakfast. You’ll be working with all manner of people from everywhere you can imagine every day. You must also consider that you’ll be missing some sleep, marketing your business, advertising, cleaning, cooking, dealing with contractors and vendors, completing paperwork, answering the phone and interacting with your guests.

You will want a prime location for your bed and breakfast. Another thing is that you need to decide whether you’ll live on site or not. If you are inside the city limits, you will need to ask about zoning regulations that regulate businesses at your chosen site. Get guarantees that you’ll be allowed to serve the menu you desire to spread in front of your guests. Make sure you know how many guests you can host in your B&B.

A business plan is a requirement for your success. A very valuable resource is the American Bed and Breakfast Association. They can give you all the bits and pieces that you’ll need to establish your business. Advertising and marketing decisions need to be in place prior to opening. Make sure your fees are consistent with others in the area.

Your guests are the number one priority when you are running your own B&B. Treat every one as someone special and appreciated. Attention to detail and excellent service are necessary to a prosperous B&B. The rooms need to be attractively decorated, have a cozy atmosphere, and be spotlessly clean. Provide a full mean deal for breakfast, complete with hot and cold items, and (of course) be delicious. Guests who plan to return will recommend your B&B to their co-workers and they will also try to return. Come up with a special event or service the guests will remember.

A bed and breakfast is a unique and profitable business that will attract people from many countries to your doorstep. Count the cost to your pocketbook and marriage, and then tackle it if you feel it is the right decision for you. Above all, enjoy the journey!
